Certificate Course in Ultrasound (Obstetrics & Gynaecology)

This results in certification in Basic Obstetrics and Gynaecological Ultrasound. It includes Level 1 and 2 scans in all areas. Its a 32 Credit unit course, that can be completed in a 4weeks period as full-time. However, as it is a modular course, flexibility in duration and distance learning components can be arranged to suit personal circumstances. For the distance learning components candidates must have access to an ultrasound centre where they can have hands-on experience and complete their log books. For a list of such centres in Nigeria, please contact us. Upon the award of the certificate in Ultrasound, candidates who continue to send ultrasound images for evaluation or participate in ultrasound image evaluation online for a period of 6 months or a total of 25 images in all the core areas would be awarded the Diploma.

Diploma in Ultrasound (Obstetrics & Gynaecology)

This include a 9 months period of training, predominantly as distance learning / online modular course. Each month is devoted to each of the 9 areas of clinical competencies. Its a 36 unit course, and credits can be transferred after completion of Certificate course. It involves a minimum of one-week attachment to an Obstetric and Gynaecological Department that has a specialised Fetal-Medicine Unit equipped with a 4D Ultrasound Machine. For a list of such institutions, please contact us.

Masters Training in Ultrasound (Obstetrics and Gynaecology) Candidates would first hold certificates of competencies in all 9 areas, undergo the online/distance learning didactic components, and spend at least one week equivalent of clinical attachment to a Fetal medicine unit. Again, there is a great degree of flexibility and requirements can be adjusted to suit individuals according to their level of experience.

The list of all persons who holds the certificates of competence would be published online at the West African Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (www.wasuog.org) and of the Fetal Medicine Foundation of Nigeria (fmf.ng). These constitutes the network of specialist ultrasound practitioners to which referrals for specialised scans can be made by other ultrasound practitioners. For example, when any ultrasound report shows poor fetal growth, such must be referred to a holder of certificate of competence in Doppler Ultrasound according to international requirement.
